95.8% of Aliens Released Into US Are Inadmissible

(RightWing.org) – Illegal immigration is a huge threat to our society, and the Biden administration has faced endless criticism for its failure to bring it under control. Now it turns out that one of the few measures it has taken isn’t working — and in fact, is making things worse. A flagship app designed to track immigrants is overwhelmingly being used by people who have no right to be in the US.

On October 28, 2020, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched the CBP One app for smartphones. Its goal was to let migrants book appointments with CBP officers as they applied for entry to the US. However, within months, the incoming Biden administration seems to have repurposed it to let inadmissible aliens into the country.

In the summer of 2022, the House Homeland Security Committee started investigating how the CBP One app is actually working — but they struggled to get access to essential documents. Republican members of the committee suspected the DHS, under Secretary Anthony Mayorkas, was using the app to grant access to migrants who aren’t eligible to enter the US. Mayorkas denied this; in July he told the committee the app, by letting migrants schedule entry to the US, “cuts out the smuggling organizations” and improves our security. However, after committee chair Mark Green (R-TN) threatened to subpoena Mayorkas if key papers weren’t handed over by October 20, the information was finally released. They show that it’s clear the app is being abused.

Figures from the DHS reveal that out of around 278,000 people who scheduled CBP appointments through the app, 266,000 of them were allowed into the US with a “Notice to Appear” (NTA). The only reason to issue an NTA is that the migrant isn’t eligible to enter the country — and that applies to 95.8% of those who used the app. If the Biden DHS was serious about keeping out illegals, ineligible migrants would be turned away at the border. Now Mayorkas needs to explain why that isn’t happening.
