(RightWing.org) – William Shakespeare wrote, “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.” Others will say “Where there’s smoke there’s fire.” However one wants to phrase it, it appears that the Republicans on the House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee, who are leading one leg of the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, are leaning in that direction when it comes to his interactions with his son Hunter Biden and the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
Less Than Truthful?
Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) announced in a May 22 press release that they had voted to make public a trove of documents provided to them “by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblowers Gary Shapely and Joseph Ziegler.” He alleged that this provided evidence that Hunter Biden lied while testifying under oath before Congress.
Smith’s opening statement during the committee meeting where the vote was taken, held back absolutely no punches when comparing Hunter Biden’s deposition to the facts in evidence claiming that it “is key to understanding the attempts to conceal how the family made millions selling access” to former VP Joe Biden.
The first topic the Committee Chairman took exception to was the witness’s contention that a rather belligerent exchange on the WhatsApp service with a man named Zhao was not intended to be the one affiliated with CEFC (Raymond) which is a Chinese energy company.
Hunter Biden’s testimony indicated that he was so stoned that it got sent by accident and that Zhao had no idea who he was or what he was talking about. However, Smith pointed to a series of images purported to be that exchange showing that both parties knew exactly what the topic at hand was and that he told the Chinese executive that he was sitting with his father and that “we [emphasis added] would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.” He then went on to explain that unless he heard from a certain group of people he would “make certain” that the full weight of the wrath of the then-VP and everyone within his circle would come down upon the foreign exec.
Smith’s statement at the committee hearing alleges that Hunter Biden and Raymond Zhao continued exchanging messages showing that the threat worked since there is a $5 million transfer to the former. The congressman posted on his X feed about other parts of the testimony where else he sees potential perjury.
Liberals are exploiting one of their favored tactics when they cannot defend the actions of one of their own, “whataboutism.” It usually boils down to pointing a finger at Trump and his voter base while screeching things like “white supremacists” or just plain “EVIL.”
