DHS Accused of Blocking Investigation Into Trump Attack

(RightWing.org) – Partisan politics seem to be the norm in America today, but in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, the Democrats claimed that violence of this nature has no place in the country’s system. However, one lawmaker is alleging that what the Left said isn’t quite lining up with their actions in the real world.

Stonewalling?

Congressman Michael Cloud (R-TX) who sits on the House Oversight Committee was attending the Republican National Convention (RNC) where the delegates officially nominated Trump as their candidate for the 2024 general election and Senator JD Vance (R-OH) for vice president. During an interview with Breitbart News, he accused Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and his agency of “obfuscating information” that several committees in the House of Representatives are trying to obtain for their investigations into the events of July 13.

What has been roundly criticized as an abject failure by the United States Secret Service (USSS) — which falls under the DHS umbrella — and its director Kimberly Cheatle to provide adequate protection for one of their charges is being investigated by the FBI as well as within the halls of Congress, including one launched by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Dr. Mark Green, MD (R-TN) sent a letter to Mayorkas demanding “all documents and communications” between the two agencies and the Executive Branch about resources for Trump’s security detail going back to November 15, 2022.

Green specifically referenced The Federalist founder’s post on X that claimed an anonymous source said that “the former and future president’s” protective team had been “rebuffed” by the administration on repeated requests for additional personnel.

House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced he had issued a subpoena for Cheatle and in a joint statement with Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said that she “must appear before [the panel] without delay on Monday, July 22.” This bodes well for at least some bipartisanship in the chamber since the Democratic Congressman had no obligation to join in the request, however, such across-the-aisle cooperation seems to be less… enthusiastic in the Senate.

Grassley had sent a flurry of letters to different agencies and cabinet members, including:

In addition, the senator led all Republicans on his committee in another letter to Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) urging him to open a full investigation, but as of noon time on July 19 all that has happened is a short briefing that some of the Conservatives called “unbelievably uninformative.”
