GOP Rep Issues Stunning Insult to RFK Jr.

(RightWing.org) – An outspoken Republican congressman has risked a new controversy after making a cruel joke about independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr. Representative Mike Collins (R-GA) linked the lawyer’s health issues to the assassinations of his father and uncle in the 1960s. It follows on from allegations of racism against Collins in early May.

In 2010, RFK Jr suffered from memory loss and other neurological symptoms; fearing a brain tumor, he saw several leading doctors. According to a deposition he made in 2012, one of those doctors told him a dark spot on his brain scans wasn’t a tumor; it showed where a parasitic worm had eaten part of his brain, and then died. On May 8, 2024, the New York Times revealed the contents of that deposition.

In response, Collins made a post on X (formerly Twitter) that said: “You either die a Kennedy with a hole in the brain or live long enough to become a Kennedy with a hole in the brain.” This was a clear reference to Kennedy’s father, Senator Robert F Kennedy, and uncle, President John F Kennedy, who were both assassinated; JFK died in 1963 from a fatal gunshot to the head in Dallas, Texas, while RFK died in Los Angeles in 1968, again shot in the head.

Surprisingly, there’s been little public outrage about Collins’s joke so far. Several media sources have criticized it, with Forbes calling it “a crude dig” and Esquire saying it was “a new low,” but there’s been no reaction from the Kennedy campaign. However, his social media use has landed him in hot water before.

In February Collins suggested illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra, the alleged murderer of Georgia student Laken Riley, should be thrown from an airplane. He’s also been accused of racism for posting a video of white Ole Miss students arguing with a black anti-Israel protester. By contrast, his dig at Kennedy hasn’t attracted much attention at all.
