FDNY Plans to Punish Anti-James Officers

(RightWing.org) – New York Attorney General Leticia James (D) may be a hero in liberal circles after she secured a roughly $454 million civil fraud judgment against former President Donald Trump in February. However, recent reports indicate that she’s not a favorite among members of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY). In a bizarre twist, a group of firefighters is facing punishment for making their feelings for the Democratic AG known at a recent event.

On March 7, the FDNY held a promotion ceremony at Brooklyn’s Christian Cultural Center. FDNY officials asked James to give a speech at the event, and when she approached the podium, several firefighters in the audience started taunting her.

James reminded the disgruntled first responders that they were in a “house of God” and told them to “simmer down.” However, her detractors quickly became emboldened as she addressed the crowd and started chanting “Trump,” repeatedly drowning her out.

On March 11, media outlets exploded with the news that high-ranking FDNY officials went to the city’s firehouses over the weekend to discuss the incident. Jim Long, the department’s spokesperson, also confirmed that the FDNY’s Bureau of Investigations and Trials (BITS) was reviewing video footage from the promotion ceremony to identify the individuals who disrupted the event.

Fox News reported on a memo circulated to firehouses advising FDNY members that the officials who participated in the disruption had “brought discredit […] to the department.” The notice also asked members to reveal themselves to their superiors for a meeting at the department’s headquarters to “be educated [as to] why their behavior [was] unacceptable.”

Likewise, the New York Post reported that FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh vowed to hunt down the so-called offending officials. As one might expect, she’s a longtime Democrat who served as a special assistant to former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D). She also served as Barack Obama’s deputy director for Pennsylvania during his reelection campaign in 2012.
