Elected Officials Fail to Condemn Anti-American Chants

(RightWing.org) – A Muslim event in Michigan denigrated into chants of “Death to America” — and many local Democrats aren’t condemning it. The ugly scenes came during a pro-Palestine event that’s widely celebrated as part of the Ramadan festival. This year it revealed how widespread antisemitism is among some of our communities.

On April 5, Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan. celebrated Quds Day, which is held annually on the last Friday of Ramadan. It isn’t a traditional religious festival; it was inaugurated by Iran’s late leader, the Ayatollah Khomeini, who called for a day of solidarity “in support of the legitimate rights of the Muslim people of Palestine.”

As you’d expect from an event created by Khomeini, it’s explicitly anti-Israeli and tends to quickly slide into open antisemitism. In Iran, it’s traditional for it to involve the burning of Israeli flags and chants of “Death to Israel, death to America.”

Now those vicious chants have come to the US, too. At the Dearborn event, Muslim activist Tarek Bazzi from the Hadi Institute, a Dearborn-based nonprofit that claims to focus on education, called on the crowd to direct its anger at America. Bazzi has previously called for violence against Israel. At the latest event, he succeeded in getting the crowd to chant “Death to America,” which is hard to interpret as anything but subversive and treasonous.

Politicians quickly condemned the chants, including many Democrats — for example, Representative Hillary Scholten (D-MI) called the event “dangerous and disturbing,” while her colleague Dan Kildee (D-MI) said the “extreme and dangerous” rhetoric “is wrong and should be denounced.” Representative Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) also slammed the protesters.

However, other elected Michigan Democrats were conspicuous by their silence. Journalists asked representatives Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Haley Stevens (D-MI), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) if they condemned the anti-American outburst; all refused to answer. So did senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Gary Peters (D-MI). Even Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) failed to answer.

In contrast, the Biden White House is against this sort of vile behavior, with administration spokesman Andrew Bates calling the Dearborn event “abhorrent and Antisemitic.” Unfortunately, it seems many elected members of the Democratic Party are more concerned with Muslim votes than with protecting this country from “all enemies, both foreign and domestic.”
