Why Are Schools Still Not Open?

(RightWing.org) – Sadly, the Biden administration appears hellbent on misleading Republicans and the American people. It definitely lacks candor regarding its proposed efforts to reopen schools. Here’s what’s happening.

Democrats forced Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package through Congress on a promise to provide sufficient funds to reopen the nation’s schools. However, weeks later, as of March 29, according to Return 2 Learn Tracker, 58% of the nation’s kindergarten through 12th-grade schools still don’t offer full in-person classes for all their students.

Why you ask? After all, the bill included almost $130 billion in funds for schools to use for reopening. And that’s on top of the roughly $100 billion left over from the CARES Act to pay for the “cleaning and disinfecting” of classrooms.

As it turns out, the White House admitted that some of the school funding from the relief package was designated for future staffing expenses and not for reopening schools. As the Federalist explained, that decision was “a direct nod at teachers’ unions.” The bill also provides $7.6 billion in funds prioritizing a telecommunication program favored by unions called E-Rate.

That’s an awful lot of money for schools that aren’t even open, especially when the “science” says keeping kids home is harmful both academically and emotionally.
