City of Baltimore Neigborhood

Trump Said Baltimore’s A Mess — But So Did Sanders

President Trump sparked left-wing outrage on Saturday when he accused Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) of ignoring serious problems in his own district. Cummings responded by claiming it was racist to discuss deprivation in Baltimore or criticize the city. However, it then emerged that veteran socialist Bernie Sanders had criticized Baltimore even more harshly — comparing it to North Korea and saying of one neighborhood, “You would think that you were in a third-world country.” So far Cummings has not accused Senator Sanders (Ind-VT) of racism. Go figure.

Liberal Misrepresents Death Penalty Racism Claims

A liberal podcaster tried to claim over the weekend that capital punishment in the US is heavily biased against Native Americans — and failed spectacularly. Rebecca Nagle — who describes herself as a “queer Cherokee writer,” was lashing out at Attorney General Barr’s order to continue executions for those on federal death row. According to Nagle, Native Americans make up 2% of the US population but 20% of those awaiting execution in federal prison.

Technically, she’s correct; what she didn’t mention was that only five people are on federal death row and one of them is a Native American (three are white). It’s impossible to mirror the general population with five people, but Nagle seems to have counted on the fact that most people wouldn’t realize how few federal prisoners are due to be executed. The 20% Nagle is so concerned with, Lezmond Mitchell, was sentenced to death in 2003 for stabbing a grandmother then slitting her nine-year-old granddaughter’s throat, crushing her head with a rock and decapitating both victims.

Mass Shooting at Gilroy Garlic Festival

Terror erupted at California’s Gilroy Garlic Festival Sunday evening after an assailant cut through the perimeter fence and randomly opened fire on festivalgoers with a semiautomatic rifle, killing three and injuring 15. The killer, 19-year-old Santino William Legan, was able to rampage unimpeded through the disarmed crowd for several minutes until police reached the scene and shot him dead. Semiautomatic rifles are tightly regulated in California, allegedly to make mass shootings impossible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.

Voice of America Staff Breaks Impartiality, Criticizes President on Social Media

Controversy erupted around government-owned news agency Voice of America this weekend after it emerged that several of its employees have been violating impartiality rules to post anti-Trump rants on social media. VOA has already faced criticism for ignoring left-wing violence, such as June’s attack on journalist Andy Ngo by an Antifa gang. Now at least three staff, including Marissa Melton, Ramon Taylor and Mil Arcega, have been caught attacking the president on their business Twitter accounts. VOA policy states that journalists must be “fair, impartial and objective in all public spaces.” The question is, why is this policy not being enforced?
