Trump “Trade War” Pays Off as China Seeks Talks
President Trump has faced a lot of criticism for his tough economic line on China — but now it’s starting to get results, as the country’s communist regime looks for a “calm” resolution to the escalating round of tariffs imposed over the last couple of years. The media has been speculating that Trump was “wavering” on trade, but now it’s obvious China has blinked first. The country relies on the US buying a large share of its exports, and rising tariffs have hit hard. Asian stocks are falling and the Chinese yuan is dropping against the dollar. Meanwhile, the US economy is defying predictions and still going strong.
AOC Calls Electoral College “Affirmative Action”
Controversial Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has stepped up her criticisms of the electoral college system, labeling it “affirmative action” for rural Americans. AOC’s beef with the system is that it balances out the influence each state has on who becomes president. Bigger states still have more influence, but in a straightforward popular vote, a handful of states would be able to impose their choices on most of the country. That handful of states lean overwhelmingly Democrat, which probably explains why AOC and her supporters want to scrap the existing system and give them more power.
Former ICE Boss Says Stats Show Illegal Immigration “Not Victimless”
Tom Homan, the former director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has hit back against left-wing claims that illegal immigration is “victimless crime.” Homan pointed to a series of alarming statistics that show illegals commit a hugely disproportionate amount of crime compared to their numbers. He said that in 2018, ICE arrested 142,000 criminals who were in the country illegally and had then gone on to break more laws. New data from the Department of Justice shows that non-citizens (which includes illegals) make up 7% of the US population, but a huge 64% of federal arrests.
Moulton Drops Out Of Dem Race
Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton became the third Democrat in just over a week to quit the presidential race, telling CNN Friday that he was winding up his campaign. Moulton was a relative newcomer to the field, only announcing his candidacy in April. He’s had a low profile because he didn’t meet the fundraising threshold for the June and July debates that let everyone else get themselves on the map. Now it looks like he’s realized he has no chance of winning, and he’s joined Jay Inslee and John Hickenlooper in calling it a day.
