(RightWing.org) – Democrats have been sounding the alarm about former President Donald Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents for months in the wake of an FBI raid at his Florida Mar-a-Lago residence in August 2022. Suddenly, President Joe Biden has found himself drawn into the controversy as several documents bearing Top Secret markings were recently discovered at his former office at the Penn Biden Center and his Delaware residence. Compounding his troubles, a watchdog group recently reported the president for a possible ethics violation.
On January 17, Protect the Public’s Trust (PPT) issued a press release announcing it filed a federal ethics complaint with Emory A. Rounds, III, the director of the US Office of Government Ethics. The group also submitted copies of the complaint to Corey Amundson, the head of the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, and to Counsel to the President, Stuart Delery.

The complaint details an alleged scheme by Biden to misuse taxpayer resources to potentially shield himself from criminal prosecution and to obstruct a recently launched congressional investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of classified documents from his time as vice president.
Getting down to the nuts and bolts, PPT’s letter said the group believes that senior White House officials, including Special Counsel to the President, Richard A. Sauber, may have “inappropriately used” taxpayer money to “personally benefit” Biden.
Biden’s personal lawyers discovered “roughly 10” classified documents while cleaning out his office late last year. Yet, it appears the president turned the matter over to Special Counsel Sauber, presenting a possible conflict of interest and ethics violation.
The Office of the Counsel to the President, where Sauber works, is responsible for advising the sitting president on legal matters related to pending legislation requiring a presidential signature, financial disclosures, the legal aspects of administration policies, and, ironically enough — questions involving ethics.
Here’s the problem with Biden turning to Sauber to handle the legal issues arising from the discovery of the classified documents. Tax dollars pay his salary, and his job is not to represent President Biden on personal matters. Instead, his role is to represent and advise the Office of the President, not the man himself.
For his part, President Biden claims his personal lawyers lacked the proper security clearance to handle the documents, so he turned the matter over to Sauber. If that’s true, it’s particularly concerning that the classified materials were stored in a location available for discovery by individuals lacking proper clearance in the first place.
