Uvalde Mass Shooter’s Cousin Arrested for Similar Threats

(RightWing.org) – Salvador Ramos entered the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, killing two teachers and 19 students and wounding 17 others on May 24, 2022. Members of the US Customs and Border Protection’s tactical unit fatally shot and killed the 18-year-old suspect after local and state law enforcement officials failed to act for over an hour. Recent reports indicate that police officers arrested his cousin for threatening to commit a new shooting.

On Tuesday, August 8, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) announced it arrested Nathan Cruz for threatening to commit a school shooting. The statement advised that investigators gathered enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant after the department received a report from a family member.

Later that day, ABC News published an article providing additional details regarding the arrest but excluded all the names of involved parties. It reported that SAPD officers responded to a call from the suspect’s distraught mother on Monday.

The mother advised officers her son threatened to “do the same thing” as his cousin, the Uvalde shooter. She told law enforcement officials she found her son’s threat particularly alarming because he was already on probation. She also claimed he was intoxicated when he allegedly said he intended to launch an armed assault on a school.

Investigators filed two affidavits supporting a subsequent arrest warrant detailing a recorded statement provided by the suspect’s sister. She said he made the threat while she was giving him a ride. He allegedly threatened to shoot her and said he “would shoot the school,” adding that classes were “starting soon.”

A review of Bexar County court records indicates that law enforcement officials obtained an arrest warrant Monday and executed it the following day. Jailers appear to be holding him under a misdemeanor criminal complaint without bail. However, case records show he is awaiting an indictment for a third-degree felony for making a terroristic threat involving public fear and serious bodily injury.

The court records also showed the defendant had obtained legal counsel. The court scheduled a pre-trial hearing on September 5.
