Trump Slams Pelosi Over COVID - Here's Why...

(RightWing.org) – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has just created a new committee to investigate the administration’s response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Never mind that we haven’t actually seen much of the administration’s response yet. Pelosi thinks we already need to start investigating it to find out why Trump got it all wrong. The president, who’s busy trying to save the country and doesn’t need any more distractions, is not amused.

Highlights

Pelosi announced Thursday that she’s setting up a new House committee to scrutinize the federal government’s actions during the coronavirus crisis.

  • Pelosi says the committee’s job is to examine how the administration is managing the emergency funding allocated to fight the pandemic. This has already caused major political conflicts. Democrats want to spend more on unemployment benefits, food stamps and free healthcare for illegal immigrants. The administration’s trying to make sure American workers have jobs to go back to when the crisis ends.
  • Pelosi is already comparing her committee to the bipartisan Senate committee set up in 1941 by Harry Truman to minimize waste in defense spending when the US joined the Allied forces in WWII. That committee saved $15 billion in 1945 and launched Truman’s career towards the White House.
  • TEST
  • The difference is, Truman’s committee was actually bipartisan and aimed at building up the US military as quickly and efficiently as possible. Pelosi says this one will be bipartisan, but she’s already appointed a Democrat (James Clyburn, SC) to lead it and it’s not clear how much — if any — GOP involvement there’ll be.
  • President Trump’s response was predictably exasperated. “Here we go again,” he said Thursday. “It’s witch hunt after witch hunt after witch hunt. And in the end, it’s people doing the witch hunt who are losing — and they’ve been losing by a lot. And it’s not any time for witch hunts.”
