(RightWing.org) – Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) retired from public service in 2019. However, he kept his finger on the pulse of American politics by working as a Fox News contributor for a couple of years before getting promoted to host “Fox News Primetime” and, later, “Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy.” He recently targeted 2022 Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake for pushing a rumor about Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

On February 17, Lake tweeted a link to a Gateway Pundit article claiming Democratic mega-donor George Soros endorsed DeSantis in his likely bid to run for president in 2024, calling it “the kiss of death.” However, as the Washington Examiner and The Right Scoop explained, Soros merely predicted the Florida governor would win the Republican nomination, knocking former President Donald Trump out of the race.
The rest of Soros’ speech involved a combination of him ripping Trump, calling him a “pitiful figure” whose “narcissism” has morphed into a “disease,” and predicting a massive victory for Democrats across the board in the next general election.
A couple of days later, Gowdy tore into Lake during the opening segment of his Sunday evening program. Not mincing any words, Gowdy began by calling Lake a “failed” gubernatorial candidate before targeting her recent shift in attitude regarding DeSantis.

Gowdy said that three months ago, Lake considered DeSantis “the best thing since sliced bread,” but now she wants Republicans to think Soros endorsed him. Of course not, he explained, adding a rhetorical “but why let the truth get in the way?”
It remains unclear whether Gowdy’s remarks will resonate with Republicans and dim Lake’s rising star. She has appeared at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate several times since the 2022 elections and recently received a warm reception at a rally in Iowa. She also landed a prominent slot as a speaker at the upcoming CPAC conference in Washington, DC, in March. Additionally, rumors have been circulating that she’s considering a bid to unseat former Democratic Sen. Krysten Sinema (I-AZ) in 2024.
