The Odd Relationship Between Chutkan and the Bidens

(RightWing.org) – Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Washington, DC, grand jury handed down a four-count indictment against former President Donald Trump on August 1. The US District Court for the District of Columbia subsequently assigned the case to US District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan. Recent news reports indicate that the judge has a history with the family of President Joe Biden.

Media outlets erupted with the news that Chutkan previously worked at the same law firm as Hunter Biden within hours of the release of the Trump indictment. Several reports cited a questionnaire she filled out for the Senate Judiciary Committee as part of her 2014 confirmation proceedings. She listed her current employer as Boies Schiller Flexner LLP, a prestigious New York City-based law firm. The document indicated she started working for the company’s Washington, DC office in 2002.

A quick review of tracking groups like Open Secrets confirmed that Hunter Biden worked at Boies Schiller Flexner from 2009 to 2014, overlapping with Chutkan’s term of employment with the firm for most, if not all, of his time there.

Equally distressing is the revelation that the law firm represented the highly controversial Ukrainian energy exploration company Burisma Holdings Limited, according to a September 2020 report issued by the Senate Finance Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

That document detailed several payments from the Ukrainian company to Boies Schiller and Flexner related to Hunter Biden. Those payments began a few weeks after his father took over as point man for the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy. The following week, the younger Biden mysteriously joined the energy company’s board of directors.

As one might expect, several conservative figures quickly started crying foul after learning of Chutkan’s odd relationship with the Biden family. For example, former Trump aide Sebastian Gorka posted a tweet pointing out Chutkan’s connection with Hunter Biden, calling the entire case “a con.” He also discussed the ramifications of that situation with the noted law professor and attorney Alan Dershowitz on his “America First” podcast.

Likewise, conservative radio host Andrew Wilkow posted a statement discussing Chutkan’s work with Hunter Biden. He also pointed out that Smith’s wife is Katy Chevigny, a documentary filmmaker who produced a movie about former First Lady Michelle Obama. She also donated to Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
