US Military “DEAL” Reached With Taiwan

(RightWing.org) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) recently complimented President Joe Biden for affirming his willingness to take military action to defend Taiwan from Chinese aggression. A recent report from the tiny island nation appears to confirm the Biden administration’s commitment.

On Tuesday, May 31, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen held a press conference before meeting with a United States delegation led by Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL). The two women bumped elbows, and Tsai read a brief prepared statement to reporters announcing the US Department of Defense is “proactively planning cooperation between the US National Guard and Taiwan’s defense forces.”

President Tsai didn’t provide further details regarding the agreement but stressed the importance of creating a “closer and deeper” level of cooperation with the US on security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Tsai also stressed the strong economic ties between Taiwan and the US, and the two countries’ cooperative effort to impose economic sanctions on Russia in the wake of its February invasion of Ukraine. The president also pointed to a recent joint statement issued by President Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, stressing the importance of stability and peace in the strait separating China and Taiwan.

Do you think this new partnership advances US interests?
