Senator Demands Biden To SHUT IT DOWN – “Dissolve This Monstrosity…”
(RightWing.org) – On Wednesday, April 28, the government introduced a new Ministry of Truth board in the latest red flag that could present a significant challenge to the US Constitution. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told members of Congress in differing committees that the Biden administration created a Disinformation Governance Board. The announcement triggered immediate Constitutional concerns and calls to end the board before it begins.
Numerous Conservatives compared the new board to the Ministry of Truth created in George Orwell’s book titled 1984. Since 2019, the Left has used social media, other Big Tech companies, and the mainstream media to censor former President Donald Trump and other Conservatives and bury the Hunter Biden laptop story. Now, the Biden administration is under fire for creating the dystopian disinformation bureau. One senator is telling the administration to dissolve the Ministry of Truth immediately.
Timing Is Convenient as Republican Leaders Demand the Disinformation Board’s Demise
The timing of Mayorkas’ announcement of the disinformation board comes as Twitter agreed to sell to Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk for $44 billion. Musk has been an anti-censorship moderate for several years. Now, he’s moved to the right more as Progressives have shifted more leftward than many could have imagined just six years ago. Musk has said he will make Twitter a free speech platform in order to save democracy, which depends on the Constitutional bedrock of freedom of speech.
In a letter to Mayoras, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) said he thought the secretary’s announcement was satire. He said that he was mistaken to believe any administration would use the government’s power to silence its own citizens. He noted that the administration appeared more open to policing free speech than protecting the US border.
Hawley said the board was unconstitutional and demanded that the administration immediately disband it.
Hawley was far from alone. Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called the announcement of the disinformation board Orwellian. He told the Daily Wire to leave it to the Left to think the government is the solution to disinformation. He reminded Americans that the Democratic Party is the same group that promoted the false Russia collusion narrative, censored the Hunter Biden story, and called American parents terrorists.
Numerous other conservative lawmakers also blasted the bill. Among the more nationally known ones was Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).
What Can Congress Do to Stop It?
Unless Republicans win the November election, there isn’t much they can do in a divided Congress where Democrats are the majority in the House and Senate. Even if they do win, there are still significant limitations. Without a veto-proof GOP majority in the House and Senate, there isn’t much Congress can do to stop the Disinformation Governance Board.
Republicans could try to add amendments to the 2023 fiscal year budget, which takes effect on October 1. Still, there’s no guarantee Democrats will allow the amendments into the budget or agree to halt the disinformation board legislatively after the election.
Once again, it may be up to federal courts to step in and determine the Constitutionality of the program.
