Ron DeSantis Gets Surprise Endorsement

(RightWing.org) – The next time Americans will head to the polls to elect a president seems like it is a long way off, being set for November 5, 2024. However, the Republican and Democratic party primaries and caucuses that the two groups use to select their candidates for that date begin in early 2024.

Long before those dates, those who want to be considered for the party’s ballots have to start their posturing and wrangling for the support they need from fellow politicians to help them convince voters that they are the right person for the job. That backing comes in the form of public endorsements for the candidates actively vying for the position. However, one Republican has already thrown his hat in the ring and is raking in huge support well before the primaries.

Cart Before the Horse

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’s name has been bandied about by the pundits as a good candidate to face off against the Democratic Party’s nominee, be it President Joe Biden or someone else. Some politicians and media personalities even see the governor as a preferable choice to former President Donald Trump, who has already announced his bid for a second term in office.

DeSantis has not announced whether or not he intends to seek the White House — he has been busy running his home state since winning his second term as governor in November 2022. That fact, however, has not stopped two prominent congressmen from singing his praises with their official endorsement of him as the next president of the US.

On March 15, Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) shared a letter to his Twitter account where he praised DeSantis’s leadership, commitment, and electability. He believes the Floridian will provide America with the leadership to offer it “eight solid years of transformational change.”

On April 5, Representative Thomas Massey (R-KY) also aligned himself behind DeSantis with his announcement that he was endorsing him for the Republican ticket in 2024. He said he has been a friend of the governor for more than a decade and recognizes in him a man who “respects the Constitution, understands policy, puts family first, and leads by inspiring.”

While it may be strange that two congressmen are putting their political clout behind a man who has not made any official announcements that he even wants the job, it may not be as premature as it seems. Several outlets reported on April 7 that DeSantis has chosen Lauren Lofstrom as the finance director for what is being considered a prospective run for president. Lofstrom had previously served in that position for Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) for his 2016 presidential campaign.

And while Trump may be focused on defending himself from what many say are politically motivated charges brought by New York County (Manhattan) District Attorney Alvin Bragg, his supporters seem to have taken note of events in the sunshine state. The Make America Great Again Inc. super PAC has reportedly spent $1.5 million to produce and run television ads, knocking DeSantis’ congressional voting record on topics such as Social Security and Medicare.
