(RightWing.org) – A series of mass protests and riots have erupted across the country sparked by the horrific death of George Floyd, who died in police custody after being detained for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill.
Minneapolis residents took to the streets for three days. Tear gas was used, buildings were ransacked and set aflame, and the city’s third precinct police department was burned to the ground.
Protests spread to Los Angeles, Louisville, and are continuing to flare up in other major cities as the weekend begins.
Floyd died while in the custody of four officers; three pinned him to the ground while one watched and kept crowds at bay. Derek Chauvin, who had a track record of poor police behavior, pressed the suspect’s neck into the ground until, and for minutes after, Floyd stopped breathing.
Initially, the four officers were put on paid administrative leave. On May 29, Chauvin was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. It’s expected that the other officers will face similar consequences.
The Minneapolis officer’s arrest comes after three days of protests, some of which escalated into violence as demonstrators torched a police precinct that had been abandoned by officers. https://t.co/iRov82DA29

This arrest and charge may not put an immediate end to the protests. Protesters also want justice for other victims of police brutality. Sadly, violent rioting is not helping the situation. The National Guard has been called up to help restore order and a curfew is in place throughout Minnesota.
This is a very unstable situation that is currently developing. Whatever you do this weekend, stay safe.
