(RightWing.org) – Rideshare drivers who work for Uber and Lyft have emphasized their lawsuits against the companies demanding classification as employees instead of contract workers. As a contract worker, they aren’t eligible for benefits like health care or sick leave. Both of those benefits are seeming to be more and more necessary as the coronavirus continues spreading across the states.

Among all of the companies’ employees, rideshare drivers could certainly use those benefits given their non-stop exposure to the public.
Currently, the drivers are requesting that judges issue an emergency injunction to force Uber and Lyft to comply with state employment classifications. Doing so would provide drivers with paid sick leave in California and Massachusetts, at least. In the past, these emergency injunctions have been denied. We’ll keep you updated on this one.
