(RightWing.org) – House Republicans are pushing back against wokeness on Capitol Hill. GOP lawmakers have drafted the appropriations bill for next year — and it defunds the House’s diversity office, which was created by former speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in 2019. If this bill passes it will be a major blow to the current administration’s far-left agenda.
When the Democrats took control of the House in 2019, one of the first things they did was establish the House Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The office says its mission is to “foster diversity among House employing offices” — in other words, push the woke agenda right into the heart of our government. Many Republicans are fed up with that plan, and with a restored GOP majority in the House, they can do something about it.
On May 17, the House Appropriations Legislative Branch Subcommittee released its appropriations bill for the 2024 financial year. It authorizes the funding needed to keep the House running, and it reflects several conservative priorities. For example, the bill redirects unspent allowances to deficit reduction and bans the purchase of communications equipment from China and other hostile states.
Top of the list of those priorities is “restructuring” the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (DEI), “saving millions of taxpayer dollars.” According to Representative Jim Banks (R-IN), chairman of the House Anti-Woke Caucus, the diversity office’s budget is $3 million; cutting that by millions of dollars won’t leave it much if anything.
House Rs are set to defund the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, created by Pelosi in 2020. Got $3 million in last year’s Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, reduced to $0 in mark-up of new funding bill.

Banks believes that’s a good thing; in a written statement to the Appropriations Committee, he said, “DEI offices have no place in Congress or the rest of the federal government,” and called on Republicans to defund all such programs within federal agencies. If that happens it will take some momentum out of the tide of wokeness that’s flooding the country.
