In spite of the personal opinions we have about various members of Congress, it’s undeniable that they sacrifice a great deal in service to our country. That sacrifice may come in the form of skipping family events in favor of Congressional hearings. Sometimes Representatives and Senators even sacrifice their health.
The latter seems to have been the case with House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD), who passed away on October 17th at age 68. The official cause is unknown with the only official statement thus far citing “complications concerning longstanding health challenges.”
One of Elijah’s most well-known quotes is a truly fitting testament to how he viewed America.

Although Elijah Cummings believed our nation is in worse shape than it truly is, he and his family still deserve our respect and well wishes.
