Rand Paul Says Gun Control Bill Was Kept “Secret” in Congress, No One Read It

Rand Paul Says Gun Control Bill Was Kept

Rand Paul Reports “SECRET LEGISLATION” In Congress – An Intentional Plot?

(RightWing.org) – A GOP senator is warning that his colleagues are trying to rush through new gun control laws without proper scrutiny. Rand Paul (R-KY) says a bipartisan bill passed last week and signed by President Joe Biden was assembled in secret and hasn’t even been debated. Is the Senate really looking for a sensible way forward, or trying to use the latest tragic school shooting to assault gun rights?

On June 21, senators voted 64-34 to move forward with new gun safety legislation; 15 Republicans sided with Democrats to achieve a majority. President Joe Biden signed the bill into law on Saturday, June 25. There’s huge public support for something to be done to prevent future school shootings, but Paul says this bill isn’t the right something — and he certainly doesn’t think this is the right way to make laws.

The day after the Senate vote Paul explained on Twitter that “this legislation was assembled as many are — in secret.” He added that senators didn’t even see the actual bill before voting on it.

Paul said that he was willing to support many of the proposals in the bill, such as enhanced criminal records checks. However, he is strongly opposed to laws that allow gun confiscation without legal representation — and the bill is offering $750 million in incentives to states that bring in red flag laws that can do just that.

Now he says that the law needs to have an amendment process to fix its “constitutional deficiencies.” That’s fine for this particular bill — but why are our lawmakers even able to vote on legislation they haven’t even seen?
