Queen Elizabeth Expected to Be Among the First Given New COVID Vaccine in UK

(RightWing.org) – Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, could be among the first people in the world to receive the new vaccine against COVID-19, according to British media. The 94-year-old monarch is officially in a high-risk group but could also make a powerful statement in favor of vaccination.

The Times of London reported on December 6 that the Queen and 99-year-old Prince Philip, who have been self-isolating for most of the year, will get the vaccine “in line with the government’s roll-out,” which puts care home residents at the top of the list, followed by everyone else over 80. Palace staff called it “a personal decision,” but also suggested that the Queen would make sure everyone knew she’d been vaccinated.

The Queen, who has been the UK’s head of state since 1952, doesn’t get involved in party politics, but she does have a lot of influence. If she and Philip take the US-made vaccine, it’s not just two older veterans looking after their health; it’s a persuasive political statement.
