Putin Is Working on a Very Dangerous Alliance in Defiance of the US

Putin Set to Strike MAJOR BLOW To The US

(RightWing.org) – The United States foreign policy in the Middle East has relied heavily on exploiting regional rivalries to produce its desired goals. For instance, the US has supported Turkish efforts to force a regime change in neighboring Syria. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to be throwing a wrench into that strategy through his recent diplomatic efforts to forge a dangerous alliance there in defiance of US interests.

Putin conducted a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Iran and Turkey in Tehran in July as part of the Astana Peace Process to discuss ending the war in Syria. The Kremlin reported the Russian leader met with Turkish President Recep Erdogan on the sidelines of the meeting.

Per a prior agreement in Tehran, Putin and Erdogan sat down again for a private talk in the Russian resort city of Sochi on August 5. According to a press release, the two leaders agreed to conduct an “in-depth discussion” regarding Russian/Turkish cooperation.

On August 25, Newsweek reported Erdogan recently revealed that Putin approached him during that sit-down about cooperating more closely with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on security measures. The revelation was bolstered by a recent meeting between the Turkish foreign minister and his Syrian counterpart in late 2021.

Putin’s desire to unite the two nations appears to be making progress. Erdogan recently noted the importance of continued “political dialogue between the two nations,” and Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported on August 22 that Putin might hold a meeting with Erdogan and Assad during a September summit in Uzbekistan.
