Protests Get Personal For Governor

Protests Get Personal For Governor

( – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) has caught the media’s eye lately with her reaction to COVID-19. Protesters enacting “Operation Gridlock” described her measures as “draconian” as the people in Michigan want to get back to work. There were rumors that Whitmer would extend her “Stay Home, Stay Safe” measure for another two weeks, which she confirmed on Twitter on Friday.

Even when this extension was just a possibility, protesters took to Whitmer’s home on Thursday. This direct protest was named “Operation Queen’s Castle,” which featured images of the governor wearing a crown. According to Brian Pannebecker, a protest organizer, “[we] didn’t want to surrender our liberties just for a little temporary safety.”

This seems to be a growing sentiment across America. While not everyone is ready to re-open their state economies, many who want to live their lives again are making their voices heard. With Whitmer’s new extension, it makes one wonder how long she’ll keep her state shut down with protesters outside of her house.
