Russia WARNS America – “If Passed…”
(RightWing.org) – Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) visited Ukraine in early July to discuss the passage of a measure designating Russia as a “state sponsor of terrorism” with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. A few weeks later, the US Senate unanimously passed a symbolic non-binding resolution (S.Res.623) calling on Secretary of State Antony Blinkin to follow through on that assessment. In response, Moscow threatened to sever ties with the US.
On August 12, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s North American division spoke with TASS about the push by the US Senate to put Russia in the same category as designated terrorist sponsors Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Syria.
Director Alexander Darchiev told the Russian state-owned news agency Washington would “cross the point of no return” if the US officially designated the country as a national “sponsor of terrorism.” He also warned that doing so would result in “serious collateral damage to… diplomatic relations,” including restricting or severing them completely.
Russia has warned the US about the points of no return, after which a rupture of diplomatic relations is possible, Alexander Darchiev, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's North American Department, told TASS in an interview:https://t.co/TkXuomYPgU pic.twitter.com/bfuw9sI5XO

So far, Blinken has resisted the call. At a recent press conference, he spoke out on the matter, stating that the Russian sanctions already imposed are “in line” with the consequences following a formal designation. “So, the practical effects… are the same,” he explained.
Introduced a bipartisan bill with @RepMalinowski @RepJoeWilson @RepGolden & @RepKinzinger to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

However, a bipartisan group of US Representatives led by Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) introduced the Russia Is a State Sponsor of Terrorism Act. If the measure passes in both Congressional chambers, it would add the country to the list of terror sponsors, effectively bypassing the State Department.
What do you think of these efforts?
