Should US Troops Be Sent to the Border?

Here’s the Background Story:

President Trump has been fighting to get the border wall built since his election. He’s been stopped at every turn by Congress, in spite of immigration concerns. Congress can do their best to continue blocking funding, but they can’t prevent the POTUS from allocating military forces as he sees fit. We want to know if Americans believe the president is taking the action they want him to take.

Here Are the Contributing Factors:

Troops were sent to the border during the 2018 midterms held in November to secure it from a potential crisis. A caravan primarily consisting of Central Americans wanted entry into the U.S., so Trump dispatched the forces he deemed necessary to resolve the issue. The armed forces have remained there ever since.

Now, Trump wants to send more troops to the border, and the DOD is repositioning the existing forces to the southwestern section. Their assignment is to build additional barriers, including extra security wires, in the event of a national emergency. Mobile surveillance will be a welcome improvement for this largely un-fortified section of the border.

The amount of armed forces needed to carry out this reinforcement hasn’t been disclosed by the Pentagon yet. Currently, there are 2,350 active duty troops, and 2,200 National Guardsmen deployed from last year. There has been no indication whether they plan to match the existing forces or provide them with more support.
