We asked thousands of people whether they think the mainstream media, or independent media are more trustworthy. The results were surprising. Although independent media beat mainstream, it was not a major defeat. It seems that mainstream media still has a hold on the American public. If this poll was taken 15 years ago, mainstream media may have held the majority, and with a larger victory.
19% of Americans think that the MAINSTREAM MEDIA is a more trustworthy source of news and information.
81% of Americans think that the INDEPENDENT MEDIA is a more trustworthy source of news and information.
The votes coming through so far indicate that the majority of people feel that the INDEPENDENT MEDIA is a more trustworthy source of news and information. With the internet and a thousand smaller sources of information, the major networks have been disrupted.
Our editors note that choice of major mainstream media network is an important question as well. Many of our readers trust major news outlets like Fox News, but distrust the other major players in the mainstream media market.
The loss of trust in the mainstream media is already changing the way American’s consume and interact with news outlets. Smaller news publications are filling the void left by major networks who chose profit over their duty to bring the American People the facts to allow them to think for themselves.
That’s why we are excited about the answers to this poll. So that we can share them with those in power who can take action to change things as they stand today.
