Here’s the Background Story:

Running the nation is no small feat; it’s the most challenging career option in the country. Every word and action carries a great deal of weight. Make the right decision and you win the love of the people and improve our great country. Choose the wrong path and it can have devastating consequences for every citizen.

The amount of stress on the president’s shoulders is immense. Of course, that doesn’t stop them from tackling the task at hand. But do they earn enough to carry out this momentous task, or is our Presidential position underpaid?

Here Are the Contributing Factors:

The POTUS earns $400,000 per year while they’re in office; that alone is enough to place them within the top one percent of earners. Additionally, they don’t need to pay out of pocket for most of their expenses. Another $50,000 is allocated for general expenses, $100,000 for traveling, and $19,000 for entertainment.

Former presidents receive a yearly pension of $207,800 beginning immediately after they leave office. This still places them within the top two percent of earners. They’re essentially taken care of for life, even after their term is up.

We won’t speculate on what a president does with their money. They’re likely too busy during their term to pursue any private ventures. Trump decided he didn’t need that $400,000 salary for himself. Instead, he’s donating $100,000 each quarter to various federal departments and agencies.

A former POTUS can’t run for president or vice-president. They can run for local office seats if they so choose. Politics is an expensive venture; many retired presidents decide to pursue their own interests instead. One thing is certain: it takes money to make money. They have a very respectable nest egg for when they exit office.
