(RightWing.org) – Recently elected New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is trying to deal with the city’s crime problems. Unfortunately for him, some people in his own party don’t approve. A radical congresswoman is publicly attacking his methods and advocating the sort of anti-cop policies that caused the problem in the first place.
On April 2, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) posted a fiercely critical story on Instagram of Mayor Adams’s attempts to crack down on gun violence in New York. Since taking office in January, Adams, a former New York City police captain, has increased the NYPD’s budget and created Neighborhood Safety Teams, anti-gun units focused on preventing street crime.
So far, the units have been a success, arresting 22 people for carrying illegal guns, 14 of whom had prior criminal histories. Adams’s tactics are hitting the right targets: habitual criminals.

Obviously, there’s more to do. On Thursday, March 31, a stray bullet apparently struck and killed a 12-year-old boy while he sat in a parked car in Brooklyn. Just two days after that tragic death, AOC took to Instagram, complaining that Adams is focusing on policing as the solution to crime.
AOC has a history of anti-police rhetoric, and she’s a leading light in the “defund the police” movement. Instead of cops, she wants to control crime by spending on social issues. What Adams understands but AOC doesn’t is that while social issues are important, they need to work with strong policing, not instead of it.
