(RightWing.org) – Former president Donald Trump spoke at a CNN town hall last week, and it’s really put the cat among the pigeons. Some Republicans are unhappy that he recommended letting the US default on its debts, but they’re nowhere near as unhappy as one radical Democrat congresswoman.
Trump Sticks to His Guns
When he appeared on a CNN town hall on May 10, Trump was in combative form. In a lively exchange with host Kaitlan Collins, he discussed potential GOP rival Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), defended his conduct during the January 6 riot, said he had “every right” to keep classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home, and blasted the Biden administration for ending his Title 42 immigration laws.
He also called Collins a “nasty person” and hit out at CNN for the “hostility” the network showed, saying he thought they would have been neutral “so they could get the viewers back.” And, of course, he said it would be no big deal if the US defaulted on its eye-watering national debt.
AOC Has a Meltdown
Despite the alleged hostility, Trump looked to be enjoying the town hall — and, as he pointed out, CNN picked up some of its best viewing figures in years, so they should have been happy too. However, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) (AOC) certainly wasn’t. In an astonishing rant, she said it was “a profoundly irresponsible decision” by CNN to let the former president appear.
CNN should be ashamed of themselves.
They have lost total control of this “town hall” to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim.
The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host.

She claimed the network had “lost total control” (sic) of the event and complained that the audience was applauding Trump and laughing at Collins. She accused the network of “making a choice” to give Trump a platform to discuss the 2020 election and other controversial issues. She also made an apparent reference to E. Jean Carroll’s successful lawsuit against Trump when she said CNN had “put a sexual assault victim in harm’s way for views.”
AOC’s criticism of the show was backed up by ABC personality Joy Behar, who called it a “joke” and claimed the audience was “stacked with [Trump’s] cult.” Saint Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire, which hosted the event, condemned both Trump and his supporters in the audience.
However, many Conservatives were more positive about it. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted that she was “so proud” of Trump’s performance and praised the former president for appearing on a liberal network. It was Trump’s first appearance on CNN in seven years and shows that he’s willing to reach out beyond the conservative media.
AOC might like a left-wing echo chamber, but Trump — and, to its credit, CNN — seem more interested in breaking down barriers.
