(RightWing.org) – America faces a slew of challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Biden administration’s failed economic policies. The nation also faces the ravages of a border crisis as an unprecedented number of migrants and unaccompanied children flood across the border daily. However, as one might expect, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) has focused her attention on promoting ‘cancel culture’ in the name of social justice.
The Cleveland Indians management recently announced their decision to change their name to the Cleveland Guardians. As one might expect, AOC gushed with excitement when asked about the shift during a campaign event on July 24.
AOC told reporters the decision to drop “Indians” from the name serves as an example that “the time is always right” to respect and embrace America’s diverse communities. Continuing, she added she thought it wasn’t a “coincidence” that Cleveland officials were leading the charge to show America how it can become “more inclusive, compassionate, and loving” as a nation.
On the other hand, it’s going to take a whole lot more than a name change to address concerns regarding fairness and equality in American society, and the promotion of ‘cancel culture’ isn’t sitting well with many citizens.
Perhaps it’s time to look towards the greater issues moving forward with a clear understanding of the past. For many, the Cleveland ball club will always be the Indians.
After all, the team specifically changed its name to the ‘Indians’ as a sign of respect for Native American player, Louis Frances Sockalexis, who many believe was the first Native American to play Major League Baseball. His legacy has now been canceled.
