(RightWing.org) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has serious questions to answer about her campaign funding. On May 23, newly released Federal Election Commission (FEC) records showed that Pelosi has been making deceptive claims about donation matching, putting her in danger of legal action.

In a series of emails sent to her supporters between January and April of this year, Pelosi promised to match any donations they made to her campaign. This is a common tactic; FEC rules limit how much an individual can donate to a campaign, but contribution matching allows wealthy candidates like Pelosi to double their funds. Promising to match donations encourages donors by letting them know their money will have the maximum effect.
The problem is that if you promise to match donations, you actually need to do it – and Pelosi hasn’t. FEC records show that Pelosi hasn’t made any personal contributions to her campaign. Donors gave her money on the expectation that she’d double it from her own wealth, but she’s just taken their money and kept her own. To be fair, this is pretty much how she wants to run the US economy, too, but it’s still deceptive fundraising.
