First Lady Melania Trump was one of the guests of honor at a full-scale British royal state dinner on Monday night, and she showed the world that she hasn’t forgotten anything from her days as a fashion model. Mrs. Trump’s class and style put her above political bickering and made her one of the most dazzling guests at this most elegant of functions.
One of the highlights of President Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom was Monday night’s state dinner at Buckingham Palace. The British media have focused on which politicians the president met — his backing could play a role in the Conservative Party’s leadership contest — and which ones he didn’t meet. There was bad news for the UK’s answer to Bernie Sanders, for example; antique socialist Jeremy Corbyn asked for a meeting with Trump, and was turned down. When it comes to building on the relationship with our closest ally, though, the state dinner hosted by Queen Elizabeth II is the really important thing — and Melania was one of the stars of the show.
- The First Lady cut a striking figure in an ivory crepe gown from Dior Haute Couture. The floor-length, sleeveless dress was simply decorated with silk tulle details, giving it an elegant and timeless look.
- Melania paired the gown with matching elbow-length gloves and high heels, completing the look by piling her hair in a loose bun.
- This was not the easiest event to stand out at, with the gentlemen in white tie — complete with clawhammer coats — and many of the British hosts displaying impressive collections of heraldic honors and military medals. The ladies — including Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and of course Her Majesty herself — favored white gowns from the cream of the fashion world, often accented with jewels from the Royal Collection. Nevertheless, Melania cut an impressive figure!
- Although this was Melania Trump’s highest-profile outfit of the trip, she’s also attracted admiration from some of her other looks. Earlier on Monday, she sported a stunning white summer dress with navy collar and belt, paired with navy heels and a navy-trimmed white hat. What an asset she is to both the president and our country!
