Tragedy struck the Silver Springs, Maryland police department earlier this week when one of their officers — later identified as Thomas J. Bomba — was found with a gunshot wound after apparently responding to a call of disorderly individuals hanging around a parking garage. He managed to call for help and was taken to Shock Trauma hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

A manhunt is currently underway, though there’s no clear description of the suspects. The Silver Springs PD is doing everything in its power to find leads and secure the area. While the situation is being treated as a homicide, the PD is not willing to rule out other possibilities.
“We were on scene fairly quickly, we locked down the area, right now were [sic] doing searches so hopefully we’ll figure this out really soon.”
-Capt. C. Thomas Jordan, Montgomery County police spokesman
It’s easy to forget that cops often pay the ultimate price to keep peace and order in America until these tragedies unfold. We’ll provide updates to this story as more details surface. Until then, please send your thoughts and prayers to the police officer’s family and colleagues.
