Leak Hints at Trump’s Possible Obstruction

FBI Hints at Trump's Possible Obstruction

(RightWing.org) – The National Archives retrieved several boxes of presidential records from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence a year after he left office. The Justice Department quickly launched an investigation into the matter. In May 2022, the DOJ issued a subpoena demanding the former president return any documents bearing classified markings. A recent report involving an alleged leak indicates Trump may have obstructed the government’s effort to obtain those files.

On April 2, 2023, The Washington Post (WAPO) published an exposé detailing the account of several anonymous individuals who claimed DOJ and FBI investigators obtained “fresh evidence” that showed Trump may have interfered with the government’s probe into classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago during a highly controversial raid conducted by federal officials armed with a search warrant in August 2022.

WAPO reported that investigators “now suspect” Trump looked through several boxes filled with documents, “apparently out of a desire to keep certain [records] in his possession,” according to the unnamed sources. The insiders also claimed federal law enforcement officials have security camera footage, witness statements, and documentary evidence supporting those suspicions.

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump, sent WAPO a statement regarding those allegations. He began by stating that law enforcement agencies’ ongoing “witch hunts” had “no basis in fact or law.” Continuing, he accused the “deranged” Special Counsel Jack Smith and other DOJ officials of “illegally leaking information” to influence legal proceedings and sway public opinion to interfere in the upcoming presidential election.

Cheung’s statement also discussed the prior investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state and the ongoing investigation into President Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents. Cheung explained the Democrat’s conduct was far worse than the situation surrounding Trump’s retention of records at his Florida home.

Trump’s spokesperson concluded his remarks by pointing out that the former president was the only person fighting to protect the Constitution and the American people from a coordinated effort to “destroy” the country’s system of government.
