(RightWing.org) – Some Republicans in Congress feel the United States is being sold out by President Joe Biden and the rest of the Liberal Cabal. Because of that, legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives that would sever the country’s ties to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Roy (R-TX), and Ralph Norman (R-SC) are leading the charge to withdraw the US from WHO and to prohibit taxpayer money from being used in funding it. To that end, they have introduced two pieces of legislation that have been referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Biggs submitted “H.R.79 The WHO Withdrawal Act,” to which 43 other members of the House have signed on as cosponsors as of May 24. In addition to that, Roy has tendered “H.R.343 No Taxpayer Funding for the World Health Organization Act,” which has 40 other cosponsors behind it.
In a letter sent to Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and ranking member Gregory Meeks (D-NY), which carried 11 signatures dated and dated May 24, they asked them to have the committee officially take up the legislation for consideration. It also laid out some of the reasons they believe America should take this extraordinary step to disentangle itself from the world body.
The first topic addressed in the letter is a great concern over “the Biden Administration’s apparent willingness to hand over public health decision making to an unaccountable international organization.” They allege that WHO was an unmitigated failure for the world, which they claim they are concerned about and generally question the institution’s objectivity when it comes to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The group further alleged that WHO was complicit in “the CCP’s efforts to cover up the origins of the virus,” which is a concern they are not alone in holding. Early in the worldwide crisis, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) published an article examining the actions of the agency’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, regarding the Communist nation.
The CFR post questioned Dr. Tedros’ actions after a January 28, 2020, meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and “his effusive praise” for the dictator and his country. While China was dragging its feet in warning the world of the dangers that were soon to be exploding, Dr. Tedros criticized countries such as the United States, Australia, and Singapore for closing their borders to travelers from China because the “small numbers of cases can be managed without countries resorting to extreme measures.”
Granted, we are all given the benefit of hindsight, but it is chilling to think what may have happened had his advice been followed.
The Republicans also point to the fact that former President Donald Trump recognized “the threat posed by the WHO and took action to end US contributions.” However, Biden reversed that policy almost immediately after picking up his pen to dismantle so many of his predecessor’s policies, including an immediate payment to WHO of $200 million that the United States “owed” plus an estimated $700 million spent since then.
