Kennedy Claims Biden Warned Against Military Strategy

(RightWing.org) – On March 2, former Attorney General William Barr published an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal promoting the use of the American military against Mexican drug cartels. He pointed to a recent joint resolution (H.J.Res.18) proposed by Representatives Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) and Michael Waltz (R-FL) that would give President Joe Biden the authority to send US troops across the border. However, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) recently said that Biden rebuffed the suggestion when he approached him about a military strategy, calling it a “bad idea.”

Kennedy made that remark during a March 2 interview with Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream. He explained that two obstacles stand in the way of an effective partnership to preserve lives. First, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador refuses to work with the US government to eradicate the cartels. Second, Biden doesn’t agree with the idea. Kennedy also claimed Biden “believes in open borders” and for some reason, “the cartels don’t seem to bother him.”

Mexican President Obrador Speaks Out – Republicans Push Back

President López Obrador recently spoke out against American military intervention in Mexico during a March 9 press conference. He told reporters the Mexican government wouldn’t “allow any foreign government… much less foreign armed services to intervene” in the situation inside Mexico’s borders.

Obrador also threatened to reach out to Americans of Mexican and Hispanic descent to vote against Republican lawmakers if they continued their aggressive moves to promote unwelcomed American military intervention.

Nevertheless, some Republican lawmakers are pushing back. For instance, Crenshaw recently renewed his call for Biden to authorize military force against the cartels in response to the recent killing of two of four Americans killed in Mexico while seeking healthcare services.

Likewise, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) threatened to introduce a measure during a March 12 interview with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade that would designate certain Mexican cartels as foreign terrorists to set the stage for using American military force if necessary.
