(RightWing.org) – A Supreme Court justice is coming under fire in a controversial gay rights case. Activists are calling for Justice Amy Coney Barrett to recuse herself from the case because she’s a member of a Christian network. Is this a legitimate request, or just bias against a conservative justice?
Why are some calling for Justice Amy Coney Barrett to recuse herself from Monday's arguments in 303 Creative v. Elenis? Because Justice Barrett is a Christian.

On December 5, the US Supreme Court began hearing oral arguments in 303 Creative LLC v. Aubrey Elenis. The case centers on Colorado graphic designer Lorie Smith, who doesn’t want to design wedding websites for same-sex couples as that violates her religious beliefs. Colorado state anti-discrimination laws say she isn’t allowed to do that; Smith says the law violates her First Amendment rights.
The controversy over Barrett comes from her alleged membership in People of Praise, a network of Christian lay groups that also runs Trinity Schools LLC. Barrett is a former member of Trinity’s board. According to former members, the network has “deeply entrenched, anti-gay values,” and Barrett’s membership means she would be biased in favor of Smith.
This isn’t the first time Barrett, a devout Catholic, has been targeted for her religious beliefs. During her nomination process to the Supreme Court, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) verbally attacked her. Now, her opponents are trying the same old tricks again.
