(RightWing.org) – On Tuesday, May 18, there was an open rebellion on the floor of the House of Representatives. Last week, the CDC revised its guidelines to say it’s safe for fully vaccinated individuals to shed their masks both outdoors and indoors. For the better part of a year, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) demanded that the science be followed. That is — until science conflicted with her power play.
For some people, a mask is a symbol of power, fear, and manipulation. Now that the CDC lifted the mask mandate guidelines for those fully vaccinated, America is beginning to see how its leaders are exercising their power without considering the science. Pelosi is a prime example. She is still mandating masks on the House floor and fining members of Congress who take them off. That’s despite the CDC’s revisions based on the science she claims to cherish. On Tuesday, some Republicans revolted.
Republicans Push Back
Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) led the way as he pushed back hard on the floor of the House. Despite the threats of fines from Pelosi, Mast removed his face covering and asked that Pelosi allow members of Congress to “take off these stupid masks.”
Rep. Mast wasn’t alone. Reps. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IO) will be fined $500 along with Mast for defying the mask rules. Seven other Republicans are being issued warnings. They include Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA), Chip Roy (R-TX), Bob Good (R-VA), Mary Miller (R-IL), and Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
On Tuesday night, Mast told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that he will not follow Pelosi’s “tyrannical rule” any longer and will fight the fines.
Pelosi’s Absurd Explanation
Pelosi’s office said she is keeping the mask mandate in place because “only about 75% of Congress is fully vaccinated.” That reasoning flies in the face of logic and the CDC guidelines based on science. For one, when the CDC made the revision, approximately 50% of the country was partially or fully vaccinated. If the CDC waited until the 75% number was reached, America might never get its freedom back.
Mast offered a unique perspective on the political power play being made by Pelosi. If the mask is about protecting oneself, will Democrats join the GOP with the same passion when it comes to protecting oneself with the 2nd Amendment?
Of course not. Pelosi’s position isn’t about protection. It’s more of the same coming from Democrats who overplayed their hand for the better part of a year.
Will Mast win?
It depends on how one defines winning. He may be forced to pay the fines. However, he’s exposing how Democrats used the pandemic for political purposes and manipulated the science to their political advantage where possible. Mast is right to say this isn’t about science. It’s about power.
