Governor Greg Abbot Says No Further Lockdowns Are Coming

( – Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) moved to reassure his state’s citizens and businesses on Thursday, Nov. 19. He assured them that “we are not going to have any more lockdowns in the state of Texas.”

The Texas governor made a decisive break from the liberal drive to restrict civil liberties in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Abbott signaled a shift towards living and coping with the disease instead of destroying the economy in a doomed attempt to make it go away.

Speaking in Lubbock on Thursday, Abbott pledged to focus on treating COVID victims, breaking the cycle of lockdowns and temporary relaxations that have devastated millions of jobs this year. He announced a new treatment for the disease, similar to the one received by President Trump during his brief bout of COVID in October.

Abbott said the drug, Bamlanivimab, has already been distributed to hospitals in Lubbock, Midland and other cities with high levels of COVID. The FDA issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for use of the drug, made by Eli Lilly, against COVID in certain circumstances.

Democrats continue to push for more destructive lockdowns, but Abbott seems determined to keep Texas alive.
