(RightWing.org) – First ladies have visited Washington, D.C.’s Children’s National Hospital for more than 70 years during the holiday season. First Lady Melania Trump wasn’t about to let the coronavirus pandemic interrupt that decades-long tradition.
On December 15, Ms. Trump continued that tradition with her fourth visit to the medical center. She read a holiday story to children and their families who couldn’t enjoy the holidays in their own homes.
Every year I cherish my visit to @ChildrensNatl to read a holiday story to the children & meet with the dedicated & inspiring healthcare professionals. This will be my 4th holiday visit there & I look forward to spending time again with so many brave children & their families. pic.twitter.com/oHWRAW368d

A small group of socially-distance individuals attended her reading in the hospital atrium. The reading was broadcast to the rest of the hospital, so children and their loved ones could watch the event from the safety of their inpatient rooms.
Afterward, the first lady helped call out numbers during a Bingo game played twice a week to help entertain the children and allow them to set aside concerns over their medical conditions.
Hospital head Dr. Kurt Newman expressed the center’s gratitude for the visit, praising the holiday cheer it provided the hospitalized children and their families.
