Fiona Hill: Spy “Could Have Been Played” By Russia

Fiona Hill: Spy

In the latest twist to the impeachment circus, former National Security Council official Fiona Hill demolished the credibility of a renegade British spy hired by the Democrats to investigate President Trump. Christopher Steele, a former Secret Intelligence Service officer, was hired by the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s campaign to dig up dirt on Donald Trump during his presidential campaign.

Steele produced a dossier that alleged Trump was being supported by the Kremlin, and this became the foundation of the whole Russian collusion scandal. That fell apart earlier this year when the Mueller report shredded many of Steele’s allegations. Now Hill has delivered another huge blow to the dossier’s credibility.

Hill has known Steele since he was an SIS officer, then later as a consultant. She says she hasn’t met with him since 2016, but that after leaving SIS to become a freelancer he was “constantly trying to drum up business.” She believes that Steele’s desperate search for work left him vulnerable to Russian manipulation, and says she was “shocked” when she learned he was the author of the anti-Trump dossier.

In her testimony to the impeachment hearings on Thursday, Hill said that Russia could have fed Steele disinformation to discredit Trump — “There’s been a cloud over President Trump since the beginning of his presidency, and I think that’s exactly what the Russians intended,” she said.
