Fauci and the 'Liberty Thing' Are Back

(RightWing.org) – How much more will America endure from government officials who refuse to understand the road they wish to take America down? It’s nothing new. It goes all the way back to 1775 when Benjamin Franklin warned the British parliament before the war broke out. He said, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Every 50 or so years, it seems that the government confronts Americans with the same issue.

Here we are again. The “liberty thing” is back.

On Sunday, August 15, Dr. Anthony Fauci once again reminded Americans of the dangers he and other government officials and politicians are flirting with. He’s advocating for Americans to set aside the Constitution and their liberties in the fight against COVID. Yet, if Americans do that, where will it end? When will the next crisis demand Americans to give up a little more of their God-given rights as established in our founding documents. At this rate, they’ll all be gone one day.

Fauci Flirts With Totalitarianism

Let’s set the matter straight. Fauci is an infectious disease doctor. He’s not an elected official, a lawyer, nor does he hold official government powers over the country. Yet, he acts like it and gets away with it regularly. On Sunday, the good doctor specifically asked Americans to set aside their personal liberties. He proposed mitigation orders, such as mandating vaccinations, which are already set in place by employers from the US government down to school districts and some small businesses.

Totalitarianism; what is it? In simplest terms, it’s a form of government that centralizes power and demands citizens’ subservience to the state. Totalitarianism occurs by two means:

  1. The citizens willingly give up their rights to the state.
  2. The government strips the people of their rights.

A good working definition of liberty is “the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views.”

What Fauci is asking is unacceptable. History shows that once a citizen gives up some rights, the doors open for governments to eventually take more liberties. One day, the only rights a person will have come from the government, not from God.

It’s Not the First Time

Fauci continually shares his lack of knowledge or interest in America’s history, founding principles, and documents. During a House hearing in April, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked Fauci when Americans would get their liberties back. He shared his view that the government was violating Constitutional freedoms as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.

Fauci’s answer was consistent, “I don’t look at this as a liberty thing.”

If it’s not a “liberty thing,” then it must be, by definition, a government thing. Indeed, during Fauci’s banter with Jordan, he stated that liberty could only be restored when infections were low enough. Who determines that criteria? The government, of course.

These are perilous times. America is coming close to a time of choosing. In 1964, Ronald Reagan said America was in a fight realizing one of two outcomes: either the, “ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the heap of totalitarianism.” He questioned liberalism and its desire to exert more power over citizens. At that moment, Reagan revitalized Benjamin Franklin’s profound words when he said those who choose government powers over individual liberties and “trade our freedoms for security” are sending America on the “downward course” towards totalitarianism.

Nearly 60 years later, here we are again.

What will Americans choose?
