Facebook Is Taking Money From China to Promote Propaganda

(RightWing.org) – Facebook has found itself at the center of controversy for years over its failure to push back on the distribution of false information. It got caught up in a scandal when it was revealed it banned an anti-Biden ad in the weeks leading up to the election. Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) accused Facebook of interfering in Georgia’s election during a Fox and Friends appearance on January 2, 2021. And the news only gets worse from there.

A shocking February 18, 2021 report revealed that Facebook has been receiving payments from Chinese media companies to cover up the genocide of a Muslim sect located in the nation’s western province of Xinjiang.

The Press-Gazette reported that Facebook accepted payment from state-run news agencies like China Daily to run advertisements downplaying China’s deadly campaign against the Uyghur people.

An official working for the Center for Counter Digital Hate told the Press-Gazette that Facebook accepting those funds to promote Chinese propaganda denying the nation’s involvement in crimes against humanity was “beyond disgusting.”

Now that the second impeachment farce is over, perhaps Congress will find the time to address protections from legal consequences of their actions enjoyed by Facebook and other big tech companies. Donald Trump already got the ball rolling when he signed an executive order targeting that immunity and the practice of online censorship in May 2020.
