Dr. Oz Overtaken in New Poll as Voters Sour on Him

(RightWing.org) – The Republican primary race to replace outgoing Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey is heating up. Democrats consider the Keystone State one of their best opportunities to pick up an additional Senate seat, making the primary race a critical one for Republicans. Celebrity physician Mehmet Oz’s candidacy caught the attention of key Republicans like former President Donald Trump. However, a recent poll shows support for his candidacy is slipping.

On March 4, The Washington Beacon released the results of a TargetPoint poll of likely GOP primary voters. The survey showed former hedge fund CEO David McCormick taking a commanding lead over Oz, with 25% of respondents supporting his campaign and 19% saying they favored Dr. Oz. The gap widened in a head-to-head matchup. A total of 56% of participants said they supported McCormick and 26% backed Dr. Oz.

Participants showed concern over Dr. Oz’s support for strict gun control measures, his Turkish background and citizenship, and his support for transgender surgeries for adults and transition treatment for children.

On the other side, participants responded positively to McCormick’s prior service in the military and his role as a business leader in the state. They also like his history of standing up for conservative principles, adding he’s a politician they can trust.

Dr. Oz has received strong backing from donors close to Trump, while McCormick has received the support of former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
