DeSantis Gets Green Light to Deploy Election Police Force

(RightWing.org) – Florida’s governor takes the threat of election fraud seriously, and to make sure it doesn’t affect his state he’s proposed a special police force to protect votes. Now the state legislature has given his plan the green light. Of course, the Democrats aren’t so happy.

Last November, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis asked legislators for a $5.7 million budget to create a new Office of Election Crimes and Security, with 20 sworn police officers tasked to investigate election crimes. DeSantis says the new office will give Floridians confidence in the integrity of their elections. Democrats claim it will be weaponized against their voters, and liberal journalists draw hysterical comparisons to the Ku Klux Klan.

On March 9, the Florida legislature voted on DeSantis’s proposal and approved it by 76 to 41. The bill will now go to DeSantis for his signature, and because it was his idea in the first place, it will become law. The new office will make Florida unique in the country, although other GOP-run states are likely to be watching with interest. For now, Florida Republicans see it as a big step forward, and DeSantis is on a roll, with other Conservative bills moving through the legislative pipeline. It’s easy to see why he’s second only to Donald Trump as a Republican contender for 2024.
