(RightWing.org) – Even while House Democrats were on break, they weren’t really on a “break” per se. Top Democrats have been working behind the scenes to construct their version of the next major economic stimulus bill. This time, the focus is on state and local aid, but their price tag is enormous.
Dubbed the HEROES Act, this 1,800+ page monstrosity of a bill (short version here) is calling for $3 trillion (yes, trillion with a T) in new spending, which is roughly equal to the total of all COVID-19 stimulus bills combined thus far.
✅ $1T for state & local govt
✅ $200B in hazard pay for essential workers
✅ $75B for testing & contact tracing
✅ Up to $6K per family in direct payments.

This is bold legislation indeed, but not for the right reasons. It’s bold because House Democrats are attempting to avoid and ignore Republicans who rightly worry about bankrupting the nation. Many GOP officials want to wait and see how the $3 trillion already approved affects the economy, and House Democrats are trying to sideline them.
This massive spending proposal comes at a time when the national deficit reached a new high of $1.48 trillion within the first 7 months of this fiscal year. For context, the previous annual record was $1.4 trillion in 2009 during the Great Recession. Trump has been saying “the cure can’t be worse than the disease,” and this latest funding proposal, as it currently stands, just might be the tipping point.
