(RightWing.org) – In 2020, then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden proclaimed loudly to voters that he was the guy who defeated the socialists and far-left candidates in his party. Then, unsurprisingly, he turned hard left after occupying the White House on January 20. On issue after issue, he abandoned the center — to the chagrin of some Democratic moderates.
The 2022 midterm election isn’t even underway yet, and Democrats are already scheming for the 2024 presidential election. Restlessness is settling in among the Left as President Biden’s poll numbers continue to collapse. Despite his lack of power to control the agenda, many want Biden to do more to ensure Senate moderates don’t pare down the Build Back Better plan. There is only one way to fix the Left’s woes, and America isn’t buying it despite the rhetoric.
Biden Was Never the Left’s First Choice
While Biden is moving the country farther left at breakneck speed, there is little Republicans can do to stop it. The best they can hope for is to derail some of the radical legislation by offering amendments to the Senate bill and force moderate Democrats to make difficult votes putting them on record on controversial issues, which could hurt them in upcoming elections.
The biggest obstacle to the Democrat’s plan is not Biden or the Republican Party. It’s within their own party. There are too many Moderates unwilling to join the far-Left. Yet, Centrists continue to vote with more extreme elements of the Democratic Party at higher levels despite their unease with many proposals in legislation.
Although House Democratic moderates begrudgingly voted for the bill, they complained that no one voted to make Biden the next FDR. The challenge is that it’s a true statement. In 2020, over 159 million Americans cast a ballot. According to a Morning Consult 2020 exit poll, 44% of Biden voters voted against Trump and did not support the Democrats. What Biden voters said they were looking for was judgment, stability, honesty, and trustworthiness. That’s not what they got.
The Left Is in Panic Mode
While Biden’s extreme semi-socialist and climate change legislation is likely to get significantly pared back in the Senate, Progressives are in no mood to blame the House or Senate. Instead, they appear ready to attack Biden if he chooses to run again in 2024.
The reason Biden won in 2020 was that he checked the boxes for the majority of his voters. He was, in their eyes, the anti-Trump candidate. Now that the president has gone to the extreme left, Independents are bailing on him.
Yet, the Left’s answer to the potentially pared-back “human” infrastructure legislation is to go after the one person championing their socialist and climate change policies. They seem to fail to understand that their problem is inside the halls of Congress. They forget that House Republicans successfully won all their seats and flipped 16 Democratic ones in a year the GOP was supposed to lose big.
As moderate Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said last summer, if they want to pass their far-left agenda, they’ll need to vote in more far-left candidates and make his vote obsolete.
