(RightWing.org) – Nearly half of Georgia voters didn’t seem concerned that socialism, runaway deficits, and a vastly growing federal government were on the ballot in the Georgia Senate runoff election on Tuesday, January 5. As a result, there may be a significant power shift in Washington, DC, as Democrats are poised to take over as the majority in the US Senate.
Democrats John Osoff and Raphael Warnock held razor-thin leads over incumbent Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. By early morning Wednesday, Decision Desk Headquarters declared the two Democrats the projected winners. With approximately 99% of the votes in at 2 p.m., Ossoff was leading Perdue by 0.4% of the vote, and Warnock led Loeffler by 1.24%.
Neither the Associated Press nor any major news outlet called the race for Ossoff. However, they did call it for Warnock. Neither Perdue nor Loeffler conceded, and both said they would be fighting until the end to ensure every legitimate vote was fairly and accurately counted.
Why Is the Georgia Race Important?
The balance of power rested on this election. For weeks, Republicans said the Georgia runoff election was the firewall to prevent Democrats from gaining control of a united government. If Republicans could maintain the Senate, it would serve as a check and balance on a far-left agenda in the House.
If the Georgia election is certified, that could be out the window if the Congress also certifies the Electoral College for Biden on Wednesday. With a 50/50 tie between Democrats and Republicans, whoever is vice president will determine the majority party in the Senate.
If Biden officially becomes President-Elect, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is likely to become the next Senate Majority Leader. That would empower House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to push through the Green New Deal, government-run healthcare, college debt elimination, free college, and so much more.
